If there’s one thing I’ve learned from photographing first birthday cake smash sessions over the years, it’s this:

The splash bath almost always steals the show.

Parents often arrive focused on the cake itself, wondering whether their baby will smash it, taste it, cry at it, or immediately throw it across the room.

But honestly?

By the end of the session, it’s usually the bubble bath photos they end up completely obsessed with.

Because once the warm water comes out, babies suddenly realise this entire experience may actually be the greatest thing that’s ever happened to them.

Splash baths are the final part of many cake smash photography sessions.

After the cake portion wraps up, babies are placed into a small warm bath filled with bubbles, creating playful, personality-filled photographs while also helping clean off all the icing chaos from earlier in the session.
