A Little Splash Of Chaos | Byron’s Beach Theme Cake Smash Session

Some babies absolutely love the cake.

Some babies absolutely love the bath.

And Byron?
He made his priorities VERY clear!

This beach-themed cake smash session was filled with soft coastal colours, ocean-inspired details, sandy textures, and the cutest little sandcastle cake designed perfectly for his first birthday celebration.

The setup was giving tiny beach holiday energy in the best possible way.

But Byron had one small issue…

He wasn’t entirely convinced about the cake situation…

Like many one-year-olds, he approached the sandcastle cake with a healthy level of suspicion first, carefully investigating the icing before deciding he’d much rather move onto literally anything else.

And honestly?

That’s completely normal.

One of my favourite things about cake smash photography is how differently every baby reacts. Some dive face-first into the cake immediately, while others prefer to take their time, play gently, or simply focus on exploring the setup instead.

There’s never pressure for babies to “perform” during sessions.

The goal is always capturing personality and genuine moments exactly as they unfold.

And Byron’s personality absolutely came alive the second the splash bath started.

The Splash Bath That Turned Into A Flood Warning

The second Byron hit the warm bath, it was game over!

Suddenly, this cautious little cake critic transformed into the happiest tiny chaos machine imaginable.

Splashing.
Laughing.
Throwing water absolutely everywhere.
Slowly emptying most of the tub onto the studio floor.

Honestly? Worth it.

The bath splash portion of first birthday cake smash sessions almost always becomes the favourite part for babies, and Byron was fully committed to the experience.

These are honestly some of my favourite milestone moments to photograph because babies stop overthinking completely and simply play.

The result is huge smiles, genuine laughter, messy little hands, and personality-filled photographs parents will laugh about for years later.
